  • Recovering from a stroke can be one of the greatest challenges a person will ever face. However, research shows that an early and specialized stroke rehabilitation plan can optimize an individual’s physical and cognitive recovery, ultimately enhancing quality of life. Studies also indicate that where a stroke survivor goes for treatment can make all the difference in his or her recovery. We combine medical, nursing, and therapy services to:

    • Restore physical function and enhance the skills needed to perform daily activities
    • Build strength, improve balance and regain mobility
    • Improve speech and swallowing
    • Develop new cognitive and behavioral strategies to compensate for deficit

The mission of Helen M. Simpson Rehabilitation Hospital's stroke program is to provide the highest level of care for our stroke patients by utilizing an interdisciplinary patient-family centered approach that challenges the patient to regain a sense of self. This mission is observed from the time of the initial assessment in the inpatient rehabilitation department through long term follow-up in the community, which may or may not include outpatient services.
